Welcome

The "House of Glass" – that's what Bremen's parliament building is sometimes called, by virtue of its exterior. And what goes on inside the house should be transparent, too, for parliamentary work is often hard for outsiders to understand.

All state authority derives from the people. Parliament, with its elected representatives, therefore forms the core of our democracy. But, as they go about their everyday tasks, those engaged in politics should not lose sight of what concerns ordinary people. That's why it is not only the elected representatives who meet at Parliament House. This is also an open house, where citizens, too, find a forum for their issues.

The link between the population and politics must always be kept alive. So, my wish is for lively debates and an active exchange of views at Parliament House, both during and outside the parliamentary sessions.
